Market
Advisory Committee
Saint
John Energy is currently participating on the Market
Advisory Committee to ensure the electricity market
in New Brunswick works to the best interest of its Customers.
Saint John Energy represents the interests of the three
municipal utilities at the Market Advisory Committee.
Transmission Tariff
NB
Power applied last year to the Public Utility Board
for approval of an Open Access Transmission Tariff,
which describes the terms and conditions for the use
of the grid by all generation and load facilities. Saint
John Energy, in collaboration with other NB Municipal
utilities, participated as a formal intervener in these
hearings. The Transmission Tariff came into effect on
September 30, 2003.
Transmission
Tariff Review
NB
Power has applied to the Public Utility Board for changes
to its Open Access Transmission Tariff. Saint John Energy,
in collaboration with other NB Municipal utilities,
will participate as a formal intervener in these hearings
to ensure our Customers are represented and their issues
are addressed.
Market
Rules
Saint John Energy has represented
the NB Municipal Utilities, as a member of the Market Rules Advisory
Committee, to help clarify specific rules that will
govern how the electricity market will operate. The
government has not yet scheduled the date for the Market
to open.
Standard
Service
Standard
Service is the service (rate) a Municipal Utility or
Industrial Customer can elect to receive if they choose
not to choose an alternate supplier. With the risks
and uncertainty associated with leaving a reliable supplier
at the beginning of market opening and in the interest
of its Customers, Saint John Energy has chosen to stay
with its existing supply contract for the time being.
Effects
on Customers of Saint John Energy
Saint
John Energy expects, through assurances from NB Power
and the provincial government, that its electricity
supply and rates will be consistent with past history
and "business as usual".
