Energy Advising

Saint John Energy is pleased to provide free of charge a basic energy advising service to its customers. These 30 to 60 minute sessions provides invaluable tips on ways that you can use electricity more efficiently throughout your household.

Our advisor looks at all aspects of your home beginning in the basement working right up to the attic. Your heating system, appliances, building envelope, windows and doors are all examined with energy efficiency in mind. Any obvious inefficiencies will be pointed out during the visit and possible remedies and solutions will be explained.

Any of our current energy efficiency programs will also be explained to you and should you wish to pursue grants or funding through the Provincial or Federal Governments we can explain those to you as well and direct you to Efficiency New Brunswick.

Sometimes very simple cost-effective answers can save you money.

Appliance Usage Tips

  • When purchasing new appliances look for the EnergyStar® symbol to identify the most energy efficient products in the marketplace.
  • Operate your dishwasher, washer and dryer with full loads only, however, beware of overloading. If possible, air dry dishes and clothes.
  • Wash clothes in cold water only. Did you know that 90% of the energy consumed for washing clothes comes from heating the water?
  • If possible, use a clothesline to dry laundry and let Mother Nature do the work.
  • Clean the lint filter on a dryer or washer after every use.
  • Use a ceiling fan in place of air conditioning to keep a room cool in the summer.
