The Board of Saint John Energy believes that beyond providing a first-rate level of electrical service, it is essential that Saint John Energy contribute to the success of our community in other ways. By providing economic benefits, following best practice environmental procedures, supporting charitable groups and community based events and contributing to civic initiatives, we fulfill our role in the community as a ratepayer funded service. Like most service-oriented businesses, the employees of Saint John Energy are its greatest asset, essential to meeting the goals as outlined above.

Many of the Commission's staff give service to the community by donating their personal time and experience in support of organizations such as the United Way, Marathon by the Sea, Meals on Wheels and St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation. The Commissions's staff also contribute to the well-being of the community through fund-raising events such as casual dress Fridays and have raised more than $20,000 in 2007 alone.

In 2007, Saint John Energy began participating in an exciting new community project by volunteering at St. Patrick's school in West Saint John. The PALS (Partners Assisting Local Schools) program allows staff one-hour a week to assist at the school through breakfast programs, sports teams, in-class time or student mentoring. Many staff go beyond the one-hour and freely give their lunch hours too!

As a responsible member of our business community, the Commission is proud to be an active participant in both the University of New Brunswick's Co-op program and the New Brunswick Youth Apprenticeship program. Both of these offer valuable employment experience to the young people of our community while at the same time providing numerous benefits to the sponsor employees.

In 2007, Saint John Energy continued with its bursary program that awards up to five students attending local high schools with assistance to attend University.

Saint John Energy was proud once again to supply festive decorative lighting during the Christmas season to the citizens and businesses of Saint John. These new LEDs are cost-effective, energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly.

All of us at Saint John Energy are pleased to not only work in our community, but also to contribute to it and will continue to do so for years to come.
