Electric Vehicle Chargers

Drive to a More Sustainable Future

We are committed to making electric vehicles more accessible for people in Saint John.

Working in partnership with businesses in Saint John, Saint John Energy has opened eight new Level 2 EV chargers in locations across the city, part of a wider project to bring charging stations to communities across the Maritimes.

With eight Level 2 chargers in our community, you can charge up while you’re out shopping, at dinner or sightseeing. Charge up at our Level 2 charging stations for $1.50 per hour (note that the hourly rate is pro-rated based on the time that a vehicle is plugged in with no maximum charge duration). The chargers are provided by ChargePoint and linked to their network, but any charge card will work to activate the service.

We also offer an all-in Electric Vehicle Charger Package that covers everything from installation to maintenance. Click here to learn more.

We are also deploying a few smart residential EV chargers (level 2) to Saint John residents as part of our Smart Energy Project. You can sign up to learn more about this project here.

Plugging In and Charging Your EV

Charging your EV varies from the wall outlet that you use to charge your phone, to high-speed chargers near highways. Here are three types of electric vehicle chargers that work at different speeds:

  • Regular wall outlet (Level 1) - overnight charging for low use (suitable for most daily commutes)
  • EV Charger (Level 2) – can charge in a few hours (suitable for topping up when you’re out shopping, at dinner, etc.)
  • EV Fast Charger (Level 3) - can provide a charge in minutes, but is more expensive (plan to stop at these during road trips)

Did you know?

  • Electric vehicles are better for the planet and are more affordable than ever, thanks to government rebates
  • By switching to an electric vehicle, you can cut your carbon dioxide emissions by 80%.
  • Electric vehicles are more reliable- they only have around 20 moving parts, compared to 2,000 in gas vehicles, which means fewer things can go wrong. Many have been on the road for over 1 million kms!
